Cactus V5 Wireless Trigger Twin Pack

Are you looking for the single Cactus V5?

What is a Cactus V5 Trigger and how do you use them? Tom explains for you in the following Video Review.

If you would like to watch the Cactus V6 Flash Trigger review then please click this link.

The Cactus V5 Triggers are a fantastic product and great value for the price, with a range of up to 100 meters and able to have a flash sync speed of up to 1/1000 (dependant on camera flash sync speed). Each trigger is a powered by 2x AAA batteries, and each trigger is a receiver and transmitter, so you don't need to muck around making sure you've got the right bit on the camera and flash!

The Cactus V5 Trigger automatically tunes itself to the right frequency and it can trigger up to 4 sets of light sources from the one trigger on the camera. If you need a wireless trigger set but don't want to fork out hundreds for a PocketWizard, this will be the product for you.

What's in the box:

  • 2x Cactus V5 Transceiver
  • 2x Trigger Stands - approx 3cm high
  • 1x 3.5mm Plug Cable
  • 1x 6.35mm Plug Adapter
  • 1x PC Sync Cable
  • 4x AAA Battery
  • 1x English User Manual

Please Note: This does not work with the V4, V2s or V2. This does not trasmit TTL information. This will not work with the Canon 10D or 300D.

The Cactus V5 will work with the following flashes:

Bought 6 of these now, they are just too good. Amazing range, better than pocket wizards in some scenarios. Use them for both my speed lights and studio strobes. Having 16 channels and being able to trigger them in different groups is quite useful as is the function to use it as a camera remote trigger with half press focus functionality as well! Good point to note is that the sync cord can be used to both trigger something externally (eg a studio strobe) or when set to transmit you can use something like a light meter to trigger the cactus.

Generally trigger far more reliably than Pocket Wizzaeds, but cheap, nasty contsruction. Only use if you're on a super tight budget and have no toher options Review by Davin

I have 5 of these (2 used on camera bodies and 3 on speedlights). The first one has failed after 12 months (triggers manually but not from hotshoe). Otherwise, they've been reliable, at least in an electronic sense. Physically is another thing.....

First few minor design problems: The battery tray is far too easy to press and accidentally eject. We all keep forgetting to turn them off (the Cybersync we used prior didn't need turning on to transmit, and the receivers turned off automatically). The channel selector is easy to bump and TX-OFF-RX switch is fiddly and hard to see in a dark room.... funnily enough, an ideal place to use flashes.

My biggest gripe is how these mount to the camera or light stand. They have a poor locking ring to tighten the hotshoe mount, but the ring is hard to get to as the body of the cactus overhangs it by so much. Once it's mounted on a camera or plastic foot, the ring is very difficult to tighten or loosen. Because the plastic is so cheap, they need to be tightened very well or they fall off (along with the flash that's mounted to it). If you're in a hurry to set up 4 or 5 of these.... good luck. I abandoned a wirelessly triggered 3 flash setup at a wedding reception entrance on the weekend and went for on camera flash (ugghhh). Time was short, and we were fumbling so much with only half of them set up, we went for safe. Now my entrance photos look very similar to their family's entrance photos.

As I frequently trigger from 2 camera bodies, and always in manual, I thought these would be easier and much cheaper than a pair of Canon ST-E3-RT transmitters and upgrading my 3rd flash to a 600-EX-RT. False economy it turns out.

Bought the duo set , just ordered a single. Shot a indoor event last week with a 580 ex, not one misfire all night even when holding the flash close to the camera. I've also fired the flash in the house through several walls.

Simple to use, build quality not great Review by Cory (Staff)

These triggers are something I would recommend every flash photographer have. They are an affordable option for off-camera flash, offering the basic functionality of a pocketwizard (wireless radio flash trigger) with out the TTL or power setting functions.

They aren't well built. They are almost completely plastic and the battery tray is something that should be ejected when storing the units as the trigger button is something that can be easily pressed by a neighboring piece of gear in your camera bag.

Use these with my 580EXii's and 50D/5D MkII. Great units for the money and so easy to use. Newcomers should be aware that there is no TTL controls for these units so only use in manual. No problem for me as I generally only use in manual. Great range, saves using my long off camera lead and tripping over it!!. Can thoroughly recommend them and for the money they are a steal. Thanks Cameras Direct for offering them...made me check them out as I know your products stand up to scrutiny.

These superb little units filled my need of being able to fire my camera remotely without a long cable and without line of sight, and also filled my need of being able to trigger my flash remotely.

Having hotshoe mounts on the top and bottom means that I can fire my camera remotely with a flash fitted as well, which is vital.

These guys are super easy to setup; I did not have to refer to the instructions at all - they just made sense. Well built but not as solid as an L-series lens, I can't see any problems arising in regards to durability so long as you be sensible with them.

All round, they are just fantastic.

Cheap and ease-of-use Review by speedRS

Bought the Duo set along with a new 480EXII. So far, they've worked flawlessly. Among other things, the units are interchangeable in that they have a hotshoe mount on both the top and the bottom of the unit, allowing flexibility and ease of replacement should one of them die. I haven't tried it yet but I'm also keen to try the remote trigger cable with these. Could be very useful.

I would strongly recommend these to just getting into flash photography, like me.

Affordable and Effective. Review by Guyno

I've used cheap wireless triggers many times before, but for the price these are the best made units I have seen! I can highly recommend them. I'e had no trouble triggering my 580ex2 flashes through walls at a range of about 20m..
