As a seasoned hiker I can tell you that I am 0% keen to carry glass with me. There is one exception however and it is these super hardened ND filters. Explorer by name and explorer by nature (no pun intended), I use the NiSi 100x150mm Nano IR and all of the ND filters from the Explorer range as they are far less likely to break if dropped or knocked.
What makes the NiSi 100x150mm Nano IR filters so hard? They are made from B270 tempered glass.
Each filter is made to reduce the light equally across the entire surface of the filter. This slows down your shutter speed and allows you to introduce a milky look to your shots.
The ND8 filter will slow your shutter speed to 1/8th of the shutter speed before the filter which is also known as 3 stops of light reduction. This will help to achieve a milky effect on say a waterfall. Ideally it would be relatively dark so that you can still achieve a 30 second exposure or the like.
Another important part of the NiSi success is that they do not cause any vignetting. On top of that they are very high definition given the Nano coatings on both sides and they are also water and oil repellent.
The NiSi 100mm filter system is great for cameras with lenses that have a standard filter thread from 49 mm to 95mm.
This 100x150mm filter is compatible with the NiSi 100mm filter system.
