Tamron 18-400mm VC Lens

Is the Tamron 18-400mm VC Lens going to be a flop or a roaring success? Well history indicates that such a massive zoom range if fraught with problems. Will it be the same with this new technology? Time will tell.

So enter the Tamron 18-400mm Lens. Now I am not a fan of super zooms and this 18-400mm is the Zoomiest of them all. This lens is always going to appeal to the travel photographer in terms of focal range but in my honest opinion, it is not going to appeal to the serious amateur or pro shooter, not because the focal range is lacking but because the image quality is going to be lacking. On the other hand Dan Watson in his video review seems to disagree. I can see his point for the beginner shooter but nahhhh I think you would be better off buying say the Nikon 18-300mm, loss a bit of zoom range but get a better overall image quality. Let's see now what Dan has to say so that you can draw your own conclusions.

So now that I have dumped all over this lens, how about I praise it for a change. It really isn't hard to see the upside of such a massive focal range. The fact that this lens starts at 18mm gives you the same wide angle you have from say a 18-55mm lens BUT the big end of the lens at 400mm is versatile if I am allowed to state the obvious. In the following video, the review is out in the real world showing you that possibilities to frame up a shot without having to change a lens. If you can deal with "softness" of the lens, which you may not even see, especially if you are new to photography, then sure, this Tamron 18-400mm should at the least, be on your lens shopping list. As long as you can accept some optical faults as let's when compared to a lens with no zoom costing $2500.

Dustin Abbott does a pretty good job to explain my ramblings, so if my flip flopping has confused you, watch his video.
