Canon EOS 80D + 18-135mm IS STM Lens kit

This Lens Kit, the Canon 80d 18-135mm STM lens kit ïs THE 80d kit for the video focused (no pun intended but its funny now that I see it) photographer / videographer. Yes the Canon 18-135mm USM (not STM) is better for video due it's blindly fast focus speed but for most the 18-135mm STM Lens will well and truly get you the shot you are seeking.

The Canon 80d as you know is the video upgrade in essence of the 70d and when you couple it with the silent of the focusing motor in the Canon 18-135mm STM (silent motor) then you are on a winner.

The rest of this page goes over a pile of stats and features of the bundled Canon 80d 18-135mm STM Lens Kit but I would hope that my comments above about the bundle would be sufficient for most to see the value and purpose in the all round video / photography / travel combo.

The EOS 80D, a powerful and fully equipped DSLR providing you with everything you need at your fingertips to advance your photography and video skills.

Combining leading imaging technologies – including a new 24.2 megapixel CMOS sensor and DIGIC 6 processor, alongside a new 45 all cross-type point AF system and fast responsive 7 fps shooting rate – the EOS 80D is a versatile camera for capturing striking stills and Full HD movies.

Shoot your world with a brilliant 24.2 megapixel Canon CMOS sensor. The latest sensor provides stunning clarity and the freedom to crop in.

The 7.7cm (3.0”) Vari-angle Clear View LCD II Touch screen is ideal for movie shooting, Live View mode, or accessing functions quickly

Pushing to new heights, the EOS 80D can shoot at 7 frames per second, equipping you to capture the action with ultimate precision, while freezing the action thanks to the new 45 all cross-type point AF system.

For pin-point focusing or wide-area tracking, the 45 all cross type AF points are individually selectable or grouped into areas, giving you greater control over composition regardless of where your subject is in the frame. When using lens combinations with narrow apertures, 27 f/8 compatible AF points offer focus, in even the most extreme situations.

The 7560-pixel RGB+IR metering sensor measures both visible light and invisible infra-red light, giving accurate exposures, while Flicker Detection ensures consistent exposure when shooting under flickering artificial lights. A new White Priority setting also helps you to reduce the appearance of warmer tones.

Designed to shoot in varying light conditions, the camera has a native ISO 100-16,000 range, expandable to ISO 25,600, and the AF system will continue to work even under moonlight (-3EV).

Whether you’re creating a travel vlog, or cinematic-style movie, the EOS 80D offers total flexibility with Full HD movie shooting. Achieving accurate auto focus and smooth focus tracking is effortless thanks to Canon’s unique Dual Pixel CMOS AF technology. Both AF speed and AF tracking sensitivity can also be easily adjusted, giving you complete control over the pace and responsiveness of the AF to suit the style of your movie.

The EOS 80D features five creative filters for movies, such as diorama and monochrome, as well as HDR movies. Videographers can be confident the Canon EOS 80D (especially with a Canon 18-135mm STM attached) will help you achieve a professional looking result, with the ability to shoot at 60p in MP4 format – perfect for slowing down the action while still controlling focus. It also includes both headphone and microphone inputs, allowing you to capture and have full control over audio during a shoot.

Fast, powerful and innovative, DIG!C 6 is Canon's advanced imaging processor to date. It commands cutting-edge technologies to deliver stunning quality, seamless performance and intuitive operation.

Built-in Wi-Fi and Dynamic NFC connectivity makes it simple to connect with and share full resolution JPEGs to your smart device. You can also connect to and control your camera via a PC, without the need for a home Wi-Fi router, and quickly and easily save, view and share your photos and movies all from one single accessible location using Canon’s Connect Station CS100.

Enjoy the freedom of remote shooting via your smartphone or tablet using the EOS 80D with Canon’s Camera Connect app.

Built in High Dynamic Range mode captures stunning detail from shadows to highlights and a range of image effects can be added to enhance creative outputs. Built in Interval timer allows you to take a designated number of shots at preselected time intervals. The resulting images can be sequenced to create time lapse movies.

The Canon EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM Lens has an improved Image Stabilisation system and provides a maximum magnification of 0.28x at the telephoto end of the lens. The Canon EF-S 18-135mm IS STM Lens supports the Movie Servo AF feature on compatible Canon cameras with an STM motor, which provides smooth and quiet auto focus during video recording. This lens also contains Dynamic IS, which uses a wide image stabilisation correction range to help provide steady video while shooting while walking.

Questions on Canon 80d + Canon 18-135mm IS STM Lens kit

  • Question From Paul at 20/04/2016 6:40 pm
    • Can you please confirm, is the lens in this 80D kit the 18-135mm STM, or (as the picture shows) the newer 'kit lens'- being the 18-135mm nano USM.
The new nano USM lens is a different lens, and has a number of different features to the older STM lens.
Both lenses are very good (I have used both)... however I want to be sure what lens you are offering in this kit (the photo and descriptions do not match).
      Thanks in advance!
    • This one is the STM and NOT the USM.
