DJI Mavic Air

Update 24th January 2018. Stock of the DJI Mavic Air and DJI Mavic Air Fly More Combo will only be available initially in White or Black, although the majority of stock will be WHITE. Red units are not expected to sell particularly well and as a result stock of the Red is likely to be delayed for an extended period of time.

20th Feb 2018. The following video has literally just been posted to Youtube. Dan does a brilliant job in taking you through the good stuff and the bad stuff about the Mavic Air.

Update. 23rd January 2018. The first comparison videos of the DJI Mavic Air against the DJI Mavic Pro and DJI Spark are out. The following video shows size comparisons for the drones and batteries.

Here is the DJI Blurb and some pretty cool imagery.

New video from iJustine as she unboxes her DJI Mavic Air (Presumably Fly More Combo). Have a look at how easy it is to remove the JoySticks BUT how many will be lost even though there is a place to put them on the controller. (Even though they do come with a couple of spares. There is also prop guards which we suggest you use at least initially. Yes there are spare props. There is also a Hard Case for the Mavic Air.

Tom's Tech Time, a regular on our website, outlines the main differences between the DJI Mavic Air with both the DJI Mavic Pro and DJI Spark. One of the coolest features is the Live Stream capability. More on this later.

It has become very apparent, even this morning with phones running hot, that the biggest issue for a DJI Drone buyer looking for a small (Ish) drone is, WHICH ONE. This is the last of the comparison videos for you but if you are not done working it out, go to Youtube and you can bath in this type of Mavic / Spark comparison videos.

We will finish off with my favourite reviewer (largely coz I think I would be as goof-ball but not as cool) as the man himself, Casey Neistat. Btw, if you like watching plane seat reviews go and check out his channel.

22nd January 2018. DJI's latest drone is the love child of the DJI Mavic Pro and the DJI Spark, albeit a big baby. Full specs to follow.

What we do know is that the Mavic Air will have foldable arms, front sensors, 3 way gimbal (unlike 2 way on the Spark), 32mp camera and video capable of 4k at 60fps. DJI also allege 21 minutes of flight time (yet to be seen).

So are there any down-sides to the Mavic Air? Well I have a couple to mention. The first is in the build quality. The Mavic Air is all plastic whereas the Mavic Pro has metal integrated into the frame. Will this be an issue? Only time will tell. The second down-side is that the Mavic Air propellers do not fold. This may be an issue if you touch something such as a tree branch. My experience in years gone by is that rigid stuff breaks and when it does, it's not pretty for the propeller or for the drone / RC aircraft attached to the propeller. Again, probably small issues.
